Fréjus in detail
A completely natural, seaside tourist resort on the Côte d’Azur, Fréjus is a city of art and history. It is also the cofounder of the association of the “Villes et Métiers d’Art”. To the south and south-west, its Gulf is bathed in the Mediterranean sea. You can discover fabulous places to the south-west, including Saint-Aygulf and Les Issambres (part of Roquebrune-sur-Argens).
Focus on beaches
Unlike the neighbouring municipalities of Saint-Raphaël and Roquebrune-sur-Argens, the Fréjus coastline is flat, with an almost continuous pale sandy beach over a distance of six kilometres between Saint-Aygulf and Saint-Raphaël. In addition to this, there are Petit Boucharel Beach, Grand Boucharel Beach and the rugged shoreline of the Maures at Saint-Aygulf. At 618 metres, Mont Vinaigre, is the highest point of the municipality, followed by Sommet du Marsaou at 548 metres. The town’s historic site is built on a small headland known as Butte Saint-Antoine on the Reyran plain.
A real gem: The Base Nature
A must for fans of wide-open, natural spaces, the Base Nature François Léotard is a 135-hectare free space by the sea. There are 85 hectares of protected natural space for lovers of the great outdoors, the rest has been set aside for sports and leisure activities. The 1.5-km sandy beach is supervised during the summer season. Over the years, the local council has developed the site to allow everyone to practice their activity of choice, safely and freely.
